AQUATIC ANIMAL WELFARE

NC have a team of animal welfare veterinarians, and staff qualified in systems management to assist in:

Development of policies and procedures that reflect global best practice 

  • Research in fundamental science (e.g. EEG studies in Barramundi) and social science (e.g. surveys to determine sentiments regarding finfish welfare in Kenya, Africa) 

  • Research in applied science and commercial pilots for humane slaughter and stunning

  • Development of internal standards for welfare 

  • Technical advisory 

DIAGNOSTICS

Our team assists with the development and commercialisation of diagnostic tests. Our focus is to holistically understand the environment and stress factors associated with the presentation of disease and to support farmers in understanding when disease risk increases on farm. We offer:

  • Histopathology services (second opinion and research)

  • Smolt Quality Projects: ATP-ase and gene expression assays

  • Research in environmental DNA

RESPONSIBLE FARMING CERTIFICATION

Our team assists with the development of systems to confirm responsible farming practices. Our staff are ISO (9001 and 14001) lead auditor trained. This includes:

  • Operational management (development of procedures, work instructions, and forms)
